The new Windows 10 will be released on July 29, after this date installation of upgrades will be available to millions of PC users.
Windows is giving away free upgrades and the only qualification is that you have a compatible device.
If you have a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 version you qualify for the upgrade. Those with older version of windows will have to pay for an upgrade to Windows 10.
To get this free upgrade for your existing device, you must reserve it. You can reserve it now; you will be notified when the installation is ready.
Sometime between your reservation date and the date the upgrade is ready, the files you need for upgrade will be downloaded to your PC. When the upgrade is ready you will get a notification to start the installation.
During the same period you will be able to confirm that your device is compatible with Windows 10. If compatible you will be all set to have a free upgrade to Windows 10.
If you don't have a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC and you want this free upgrade, you can still get in on the deal by buying a new Windows 8.1 device and upgrading to Windows 10.
Windows 10 is designed to be compatible with the Windows 8.1 laptop, tablet or desktop PCs that are for sale now. If you decide to purchase a new device check with the retailer or manufacturer as some features of Windows 10 may not be available on some devices.
