There are two important steps one must take to begin their weight loss journey. These steps must continue on to become lifestyle habits. They are diet and physical activity.
Although some place themselves on a weight loss diet in an effort to establish weight loss, the both must be combined for successful weight loss. Lifestyle changes are usually required; the extent of the change will depend on your existing lifestyle.

The changes required will involve:
Eating habits
Activity levels.
New eating habits involve healthy eating and calorie control, while improved activity levels involve fitness and exercise. Both are necessary for successful weight loss and are present in any weight management program.
Healthy eating will maintain general good health and reduce the calories eaten, while physical activity will burn calories and fat.
Burning more calories than you eat will leave the body with a calorie deficit that will lead to weight loss; this should be the outcome of any weight loss plan.
There is a daily food intake requirement for one's age and gender, more is not necessary. If you eat more than is necessary, you may very well be consuming too many calories. You will need to offset it with more prolonged or vigorous exercise.
If you are still not losing weight while eating the recommended for your age and gender, you gradually increase your exercise.
These are some actions that would help make a weight loss journey a success.
