Every year on April 07 World Health Day is celebrated to raise awareness of a global health concern. The focus this year is food safety.
The theme is ' From Farm to Plate Make Food Safe.'
According to the WHO, unsafe food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances, causes more than 200 diseases, they are called food borne diseases.
Foodborne illnesses that are a result of unsafe food are:
Diarrhoea
Infections
Meningitis
Acute poisoining
cancer
Chronic disability
Deaths
Unsafe food can be: un-cooked food of animal origin, fruits and vegetables contaminated with faeces or raw shellfish with marine biotoxins.
If you are considering improving your eating habits to a healthier one, make safe food one of your goals. If you believe that you have already developed healthy eating habits, remember unless your food is safe your health is at risk.
