A study found that a mix of carbohydrates, fat and protein made no difference whether people lost weight.
The participants in the study were assigned to four different diets.
After 2 years the average weight loss of the participants was 9 pounds regardless of the diet; the mix of carbohydrates, fat and protein in the diets made no difference.
The findings indicate that behavioural factors rather than metabolism are the main influences on weight loss. It means that in addressing obesity one would be wise do more than taking a look at popular diets.
