It is the time of the year, the beginning of a new one. Many resolutions are made, but many are broken.
Health and Wellness resolutions are commonly made, but are either broken or not implemented at all. I am writing this article to assist others in making New Year Health Resolutions.
If you think that you need to improve your health status or manage an existing disease, a health resolution could be your answer. Health resolutions are among the top ones made every new year.
Why Make Health Resolutions
To manage existing disease and to prevent complications from them
To make lifestyle changes
You have risk factors that threaten your health
You want to lose weight
You want to prevent chronic diseases
You want to be healthier with more vitality
The question one may have is"Where should I start?"
A good place to start is with an identifiable health matter that needs fixing. What if there are several health matters or you just cannot identify one specific to you. How then can you make and implement a Health & Wellness New Year Resolution.
This is a guide to making changes to one's lifestyle related to health and wellness, it can be used by anyone. You do not need to identify a health issue or be physically challenged to use it. It is a health promotion approach to living a healthy lifestyle and preventing diseases.
A good place for anyone to start is by making a self assessment, you do not need a health assessment. Take a look at these factors, they can be the causes of ill-health, diseases, lack of vitality, low immune system, frequent trips to an medical doctor, unexplained pain and discomfort and more. These are some factors:
Diet
Exercise
Tobacco
Air pollutants
Overweight
Tip: Can you eliminate any of these risk factors: Unhealthy eating, smoking, lack of physical activity, overweight/obesity or exposure to air pollution? They are health risk factors that make us sick and influence unavoidable ones.
Start by making an assessment of your lifestyle related to these risk factors. If they are present make a resolution to reduce one or more in the New Year. A lifestyle without them is a health promoting one. You will prevent diseases, have more vitality, enjoy better health, look and feel better, make fewer or no visits to an MD.
Your resolution may require lifestyle changes depending on your health status and the expected outcome. Plan for the change and include it in your resolutions. Firstly do not wait for symptoms of disease or illness to develop before making changes.
Plan to be your first health insurance, without it you lose control of your health and medical insurance.
