About Cancer And Its Prevention

Cancer is one of several chronic diseases, also called non-communicable diseases(NCD's). Chronic diseases take the lives of 60% of world mortality each year.

Many of these deaths are premature and could have been prevented.

Do you know enough about cancer to protect your health and prevented it?

Throughout life most cells in the body grow, multiply and replace themselves. During this process errors or changes called mutations occur.

Whereas, in normal cells growth and development are controlled, in cancerous cells when certain mutations occur, cells become abnormal and continue to grow long after. These malignant cells are cancer.

Cancer cells have the ability to invade other tissues and form secondary tumors called metastases.

Fortunately there are things that we can do to protect our health from cancer and many are free. The main lifestyle habits that will prevent them and other chronic diseases are:

  • Physical activity

  • Healthy eating

  • A healthy body weight

  • No smoking

  • Clean air

The best way to practice these good habits is through Self Care. Self care is health care provided by you at home and is preventative.

Our health program prepares people to become expert at their own self care. Just as medical professionals need to be educated to provide health care, we need self care education to provided self care.
