Noncommunicable diseases(NCD) are also called chronic diseases.

NCD's are the leading cause of mortality in the world, representing 60% of all deaths. Of the 35 million people who died from chronic diseases in 2005, one-half were under 70 and one-half were women."

According To The Center for Disease Control( CDC), "Chronic diseases and conditions—such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and arthritis are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems."

When we consider that the other causes of deaths: accidents, suicides, communicable diseases and other causes together make up the other 40%, it is clear that chronic diseases are the number 1 global health issue.
