Self Care To Prevent Strokes

A stroke is a cardiovascular disease(CVD); CVD's are chronic diseases.
Strokes take the lives of millions each year and is the 5th leading cause of deaths globally.
A stroke is caused by the interruption of the blood supply to the brain, usually when a blood vessel bursts or is blocked by a clot.
Strokes victims who survive often have poor quality of life; they are often left with a major disability. Many who live depend on family care givers and or health care givers to provide the self care that you and I provide.

A stroke can be prevented, thereby reducing the number of deaths globally. Prevention of stroke lies with the lifestyle of the individual, a healthy lifestyle developed during early years will contribute to the its prevention. Prevention is better than cure.
Fortunately a healthy lifestyle is a choice and in the control of the individual.
Self Care is health care at home provided by you and is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Our aim should be to live a healthy lifestyle possible which will inturn prevent the developing of a stroke adn other chronic diseases.
If you have any of the following, your chances or having a stroke attack are increased. They are:
Family history of stroke
Hypertension
Overweight
Poor dietary habits
Low level of physical activity
You smoke
Take steps now to prevent a stroke by making a change of lifestyle habit. Don't wait for one.
On october 29 , World Stroke Day is celebrated to raise awareness, as the disease is a global concern. -Make a pledge to remove at least one bad lifestyle habit
-Make a pledge to know the warning signs, knowing them can save lives.
