Today is World Health Day, it is celebrated each year to raise awareness of a global health issue.
The focus on World Health Day 2016, is diabetes.
The World Health Organization, organizers of World Health Day is calling on all to:
"Halt The Rise Take Steps Now To Beat diabetes."
Since 1980, the number of people living with diabetes has more than tripled. This means the disease is on the rise. The number of adults who have the disease is 422 million.
Diabetes is a non communicable disease(NCD), NCD's are chronic diseases.
The goal in this year's World Health Day is to raise awareness of the need to step up prevention and treatment of diabetes.
Prevention is better than cure, this means self-care to prevent the disease is critical in reducing the number of cases.
Diabetes can be treated, once a diagnosis is made, self-care will improve the quality of life of the individual, lead to effective treatment and increase the chances of being cured.
